AMD 64 speed

I'm wondering if someone on this group could answer a question about the
AMD 64 processor for me. I consider myself pretty computer literate but
I'm not real sharp on the hardware end of it.

I just bought a HP laptop, model ZV6130US with an AMD 64 3200+ processor
which is supposed to be running at 2 gig. I ran a couple of freeware cpu
speed tests on it, one being from a company called Wizard Soft. One time
I ran the test it told me it was running at 981 MHz and the second time
it told me 1540 MHz. I ran another program called RightMark cpu clock
utility. It came up with 997 MHz said the cpu core was Venice with
revision E3.

I guess that brings up two questions. Is there an accurate benchmark
program for this processor, and how do you compare the AMD 64 3200+ to a
pentium IV desktop I have running at 2.8 gig with hyperthreading technology?

Thanks for any help, Don

Run Prime95 torture test and then check processor speed. It should make the
CPU run at 2.0GHz (assuming 939). Alternatively, you could set your power
scheme to "Always On" which should bypass CnQ (Cool and Quiet).

I've got a 754 3000+ desktop and right now it's running at 800MHz. And
that's the speed it is supposed to be running at. Now if I disable
CnQ, powernow, or whatever you want to call it, that all laptops should
have enabled by default, the cpu will run at it's standard speed of
2000MHz. I hope that answers your question.
