I have an AMD Athalon 64 3000+ cpu. When I try to install the 64 bit version
of Defender, it does not recognize that I have a 64 bit cpu and will not
install. Why? I was able to insrall the standard version and it runs.

Hello t10221ru,

Try this, install the file WindowsDefender.msi which is for a 32 bit system,
and let us know the result.
I hope this post is helpful,

64bit is only for the 64bit OS. Otherwise the single CPU wont make the
entire system 64 bit.

The installer fails for me, as well, with the messagebox:
The installation package will only execute on 32 bit versions of Windows.
[OK]

I am running:
XP Pro x64 Edition SP1
AMD Athlon64 3200+

Ignore me. I didn't scroll down the download web page and see the tiny link
to download the x64 installer.

I was able to install the 32 bit version when I first downloaded the file
after I tried installing the 64 bit version.

Thanks--I had missed that link myself--and was thinking they'd somehow
combined the download. It was of near-equal prominence early in the beta,
and caused a good bit of confusion. I like it much better the way it is
now, but I can see why you missed it!

I knew a Bill Sanderson in gradeschool in Detroit. Any chance you are from
Detroit?

Nope--not me. I've been in the city once, as I recall, but I grew up on the
east coast.
