Hi all,

I am confused about a CPU upgrade. Please can anyone advise as my knowledge
of modern CPU's is limited?

Firstly here is my current system spec.

Gigabyte GA K8NF-9 NF4 mobo
NV 7950GT 512MB
2GB PC 3200 RAM
AMD 64 3200+
OLD 5.1 SOUND BLASTER

I mainly use my PC for gaming. I have upgraded GFX card and ram to 2GB and
am left with my original 3200+ (winchester or newcastle dont know which)

I have looked at tomshardware CPU chart and seen that although moving from a
3200+ orleans core on a NF590 800 to a 4200x2 will give a very large FPS
boost in games, moving from a 3200+ newcastle to a 4200+ manchester on an
NF4 mobo however gives only a small increase.

Is this the case, and is it worth spending the money to upgrade? What is the
difference between cores and why is there such a marked difference in
performance increase from upgrading between processors of the same AMD
performance indicators (****+) running on the different mobos, surely they
all are the same performance or the performance indicator would be
different?

In short how much would I gain from change?

Thanks

Well motherboards make a slight difference. Download and use CPU-Z to
identify your 3200 CPU and pin connection. Then you'd have a better idea
how to proceed.
