version 614 always downloads version 5729 definitions. already have
version 5729 update redownloads them anyway. previous version told you that
you was up to date

I have the same problem with the beta 614.
MSAS shows the version of the defs 5729, but if I check
the files gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd and
gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd they are dated 9 June (version
5925).
If I try to perform the Update, apparently the version
5729 from 5725 has been installed , but it is not this
way: in fact performing again the Update, the definitions
are not adjourned, but the version 5729 from 5725 is
installed again (to the endless one!).

Hi

This is now wellknown and its better to wait for
a solution from MS.

These are zip files. Unzip them to your antispyware folder and
permit them to replace the existing definition files.

It works for me...YMMV.

.
Hello...I downloaded these 3 files and unzipped them as
you directed. This solved the repeating download defs
from 5725 to 5729. Thanks!

Hi

This is a little bit wild workaround I belive but..........
The real 5729 definitions are great.

- Download Winzip or 7-Zip

- Open your downloaded file and extract it with your Zip tool .
Do the same for the other 2 files.

- Right click on MSAS icon and choose shutdown.

- Copy your extracted files to Program files / Microsoft Antispyware
and choose to overwrite existing definition files.

- Start MSAS again and make a "check for updates" if you have latest
defs.

- If you have time, perform a full system scan directly with all
options checked.

Hi,

Apart from the instructions given you by Plun, you may also have to rename the files after you download them.
If your Zip program won't open them for extraction, change the file extension on the downloaded items to .zip.
This was necessary for me here with Win Zip 8.1 in order to get the files to extract.

Once you've got the three files extracted, follow Plun's instructions for getting them into the right folder.

Note: This fix cured the looping def bug in build 614 on my machine.

Hi Plun,

Thanks for the link, I'll have to give that program a try.

I should have been a little clearer in my remarks Pat, both Winzip, and Winrar will open the files with .gcd extensions for
extraction using the respective programs interface. However, the rightclick context menu items for Winzip..."Extract to" and
"Extract to here" will not work unless the file extensions is changed to .zip. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Don

Hi again

Thank you for explaining this.

I was using 7-zip and havent tested it with
Winzip or Winrar.

More fun to open MS software with an GNU LGPL license ............
:')

(Internal joke! did you hear that Linuxgirl ?)

Donald Anadell laid this down on his screen :

Bob's instructions work perfectly for me. Now MAS really is at 1.0.614
at 5729.

Quick scan was <7 minutes and looked at 70 memory, 29045 files, and 9451
registry keys.

Full scan was <23 minutes ane looked at 2340 memory, 34446 files, and
9451 registry keys.

I have all automatic updating and scanning disabled until it's clear in
this newsgroup that Microsoft has fixed this for everyone.
