Alway becomes Always!

I'm not sure that Forms is the right place to post this because this also
happens if I try and add or try and change an existing record.

I have a field in a table called "Surname" it is a text field of size 45 - I
haven't changed anything else from the default values.

I want to enter a person whose name is Alway - but every time it is entered
Access changes it to Always. If I delete the last s it is (always!!)
replaced.

Any thoughts?

Normally, in Office programs you can press Ctrl-Z after an unwanted
autocorrect "bites". This will reverse it and leave you with what you
originally entered. This doesn't work well in a situation like the
OP's in Access, because the autocorrect does not "bite" for a single
word until you leave the field. It is useful to know this if you are
entering a longer string, e.g. text in a memo field. Bizarrely,
autocorrect settings are "Office global", so you can't have
autocorrect turned off (or at least severely turned down) for Access
and/or Excell and turned on (or "up") for Word, as you might well
wish.
