Coupled with Kazaa into invisible, the Altnet software
settles at the same time as the application of exchange of
files on line, without the knowledge of the users. It is
nevertheless possible to remove it, while following a
procedure tested by our care.
As we already evoked (see our topicality of the
02/04/2002), the software installation of exchange of
Kazaa files, installs, without informing the user, the
program "Altnet" of the company Brilliant DIGITAL
Entertainment (BDE). The leaders of this company of online
advertising concluded from the agreements with those of
Kazaa to be able to graft their software with that of the
system of exchange of files. They envisaged to maintain
this last in sleep a few times, then to activate it. A
parallel network, exploiting the resources of the
computers connected to the Kazaa network, will then be
created. It will make it possible to distribute commercial
contents of other companies to the Net surfers like
carrying out arithmetic operations distributed.
The leaders of BDE and a company relationship of Kazaa,
indicated that it is possible of désinstaller the software
Brilliant DIGITAL of a computer without that affecting the
operation of the Kazaa program.
Here procedure, a little delicate, allowing to conclude
this desinstallation. It makes it possible at the same
time to get rid of the "spyware" of BDE, a software spy
which traces the practices of navigation of the users.
CNET News.com, (site pertaining to CNET Networks, head
office of ZDNet), tested on a revolving computer under
Windows 2000, but it must apply to other versions of the
operating system of Microsoft. On the other hand, it can
not be appropriate for all the configurations system.
CNET Networks releases any responsibility concerning these
instructions. It is recommended to make a safeguard of the
important files before starting.
In the Control panel of Windows, go in Ajout/Suppression
of programs. Choose "b3d Projector", and click on the
button "Modifier/Supprimer".
A message must then be posted, indicating that the
desinstallation is finished. Launch a research on the
file "BDE", which must be in the repertory "WinNT"
or "Windows". This file contains the file "bdeclean.exe".
Carry out it, then remove file BDE.
Caution: another software named Borland Database Engine,
and which has nothing to do with the Altnet software, also
creates a repertory BDE. If you think that it is installed
on your station, or in case of doubt, do not remove this
repertory.
In the repertory "temp" (located in theory in the
repertory "Windows" or "WinNT") is a file
named "Brilliant", container of many files. Remove it.
Once the stages 1 and 2 finished, seek and remove the
other files associated with the program which are in
repertories system, and remove them. CAUTION: if you
remove the bad files, you are likely to harm the correct
operation of your computer. They are in theory in the
file "Windows\System", "WinNT\System32"
or "Windows\System32":
