Alternatives To Nero ?

Bit off topic..but it is needed to control the Hardware.
I'm FED UP with the Nero CD/DVD burning software.
I've been using version 6 for a long time & I have just tried new version
8.
Its horrid (version 8) with the classic signs of a release that does not
really have anything usefully new to offer.
But 'They' have to release 'New' versions so in goes vast amounts
of nothing-to-do-with-Burning gadgets n gimmicks that get in the way &
clutter up the
system & tries constantly to 'phone home for pointless features.
I can't even manually set the burning speed from where you start the 'Burn
Now' .
V 8 just seems overall generally badly made ..(& every body says V 7 is/was
rubbish)
Bloody thing ...I'm staying with version 6.

Nero still seems to be the dominant one in this field ..
I do want some extra features ...Audio file convert ..etc.
What's the recommended alternatives please ???
I don't want to spend to much for a Home general purpose program.

Ask your question in alt.comp.freeware , there are plenty of
freeware apps for burning CD/DVDs.

Install Linux, and appropriate free utilities.
 
There is nothing wrong with v6 of Nero, it's probably a case of learning how to use it, e.g. Nero will convert wav
files, mp3s etc for you provided you choose to burn an audio cd.

If you instal new software, you still have to learn how to use it.

Why feel compelled to change software when v6 had what you
wanted? Generally, the grand ideal of newer software being
better is not true, until you really NEED a specific feature
that only the new has, and are willing to go through the
retraining, cost, and accept other changes. Since all
people don't have the same desires for any particular
software, there won't be any one version that is ideal to
everyone.

Ultimately the squeaky wheel gets greased, if you want Nero
to change their software you need to tell them instead of
us.
