BigFix, http://www.bigfix.com

Not as all-encompassing as CatchUP, but combined with windoze update, it
seems to do a fair job.

I do run Bigfix Gary but it is security orientated. What I miss from
CatchUP is that it is scanning your hardrive to check all your programs,
Freeware, shareware or commercial and tells you if there is an update
available (It was not perfect). Instead of going to every program
website and check if there is an update this would be a great time
saving service. I would pay for somtehing like that if it was available.

BigFix only has Microsoft updates, or at least that's all it has ever
displayed for me.

It used to do much much more - I used it a long time ago, then this
thread reminded me, and when i tried it, only sites were microsoft.

Waste of time for me....

With Big Fix, it's easier to download a single update than with the
windows update site, where you first have to deselect any you don't
want.

There are at least two, but the only one I can think of at the moment
is VersionTracker ($). One of the US magazines (PC World? PC Mag?)
has a 90 days free special for VersionTracker.
http://www.versiontracker.com/windows/

At least one of the shareware sites offered a similar feature if you
joined ($).

BTW, if you always use a download manager, some of them have a feature
to automatically search for a later update than the one you have and
download it. (I know FlashGet ($) does but I don't remember which of
the others off-hand.) If you ran that once a week you would have the
latest version of most things if you combine it with Windows Update
and standard automatic update/notification where offered (e.g., for
antivirus)

I assume you are interested in personal use for 1 or 2 PCs, so the
heavy duty patch management software would not be relevant. I think
BelArc also offers something in this area (again $).

Please let us know what you find as you research this.
