Alternative to GuidePlus+?

Is there an alternative to this program? It often gets the time wrong
for shows and/or the wrong title. I'm fed up with it. Any
alternatives?

I agree, I hate setting up a scheduled to record Simpsons only to find out
I have recorded Opra.

There's nothing that is going to be any more reliable on schedule. All the
competing products get their data from secondary sources which for US
schedules usually trace back to the same database that GuidePlus uses.

This isn't a defense of GuidePlus--it sucks, and doesn't even do that very
well, for a variety of reasons, but it's schedule accuracy, poor as it is,
is as good as you're going to find in an accessible software product.

Nobody gets this right every time--the content providers sometimes report
their schedule incorrectly or make changes at that last minute or push
everything back a half an hour to let a game finish or the President drone
on or whatever, and there's nothing that any schedule provider can about
this--I've even had DirecTV tell me that I was watching one thing while
what was on the screen was quite different.

Yeah, I wanted to record Seinfeld and it recorded Cheers. Stupid thing.

There's got to be something better.

John, thanks for that information. I was wondering if the Tivo guide
is any better. I was debating whether to just go with Tivo, or
continue capturing TV.

I've had Tivo do the same thing, rarely, but it happens.

There are a lot of reasons to go with a Tivo though. I find that it's much
more satisfactory than any PC-based solution I've tried, and if you read up
on Tivo hacking at <http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/> and
<http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/> you'll find that you really don't give
up anything.

John, I was thinking about Tivo,
But I have the Gateway Connected DVD player that acts as a server,
between my living room TV and my computer. It works pretty well.
Tonight my wife and I were looking at some photos we took with our
digital camera a year ago. It will also play music, Divx, etc. So I
think I'll stick with capturing. The other benefit is, if I capture, I
can burn it to DVD or VCD. Can't do any of that with Tivo.

Actually, you can. Read up on Tivo hacking before you make assumptions
about what can and can't be done.
