I have an ISA card for my old microtec E3 scanner model number mrs600es
and was wondering if there is a PCI alternative that will work? At this
minute, it's the only thing (i THINK) keeping me from a new m/b since a
lot of you have helped me with my other issues already.

Thanks!

I think the Adaptec AHA 2906 has a 25-pin external connector with
which you could use your current cable. The Adaptec AHA 2930 will
have a 50-pin connector. You should be able to procure a cable that
will connect to it on one end and on the other to the old-fashioned
Centronics-type jack on your E3, but that would be an added expense.

Bottom line = if you're sure that the ONLY SCSI peripheral you'll want
to connect is the E3, find the less expensive 2906.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a PCI card because you
upgraded to a computer that has no ISA slots, throw the E3 in the
dustbin, and go get a new scanner with USB connectivity. Even a $49
model will outperform the E3 and is barely more expensive than a new
SCSI adapter.
Check out the specs on these two PCI cards at www.adaptec.com

I know the E3 was a nice scanner in its time (I know, I had one), but
wouldnt it be cheaper and more convenient to bin it. You are going to be
able to get a USB card and a scanner for not much more than the price of
cheapy SCSI card and cable. The advantages being: higher resolution, higher
speed (true), smaller desktop footprint, and such a reduction in weight such
that you'll be able to remove those breeze blocks that support the part of
the desk the scanner sits on.
