Alternative icons

Is it possible to allocate alternative shortcut icons to xls files?
i.e other than those supplied by Microsoft - such as icons I have
constructed myself.

Is it possible to have different icons for different files?
i.e. each file having a different icon?
 
If it's a shortcut to an excel file, you can rightclick on the shortcut,
then choose properties.
