I have a XP machine on a domain network, plus I have a
DSL connection being used by a router. Now, when I put
the local domain server number in the primary DNS slot
the PC boots to the network fine but cannot get on the
internet. But when I put the external dns number in the
first slot it gets on the internet fine, but is slow on
the internal network. How can I get XP to use the
alternate dns number?

Normally you don't split the primary and secondary DNS
between a domain and the internet. On a domain clients
should point to the local domain DNS server and the DNS
server is configured to forward queries to the internet
for names that don't exist in its zone.

It sounds more like a DNS server config issue. Is the internal DNs server
configured to forward to an ISP DNS server?
