Alt + Prt Scrn

In the previous versions of Word that I've used, I've been
able to use the Windows command Alt + Prt Scrn to take a
snapshot of whatever was currently on my desktop. I'm
using Word 2002 and it doesn't seem to be working? Is it
Word or is it me?
Thanks for any help.

PrtScr does the desktop, Alt+PrtScr takes the current Window. Can you paste
the results into MS Paint?

It's possible that you have the Works plug-in installed and it's clearing
the clipboard.

Alt+PrintScreen copies the currently active window or dialog. PrintScreen
copies the entire screen. Both commands copy to the Clipboard, whence you
can paste into any Windows app.

Yes, it does paste into Paint. But I can't get it to paste
into Word from Paint. How do I determine if Word plug-in
is installed and how do I get around it?

That is different that screen shot. To "paste into Word from Paint", you
must first re-select the image you want from Paint (select, edit, copy),
then Paste (edit/paste or ctrl-v) into Word.

There is no Word 'plug-in' required for this. This is base Windows
system functionality.

I have vague recollection of some viruses defeating proper clipboard
functionality, so check that you don't have a virus hidden on your machine.
 
I actually referred to the Works plug-in for Word which has a side-effect of
clearing the clipboard prior to Word opening
