I've had this PC for 3 years and this is the first time this has happened.
When I hit alt, control, delete, all I'm getting now is a blank box with 2
columns for Task and Status. At the bottom of the box is End Task, Switch
To, and New Task. On my task bar at the bottom right corner of the screen is
an icon which says CPU Usage.

I used to get two columns: Applications and Processes, which allowed me to
selectively close processes working in the background. Not now. What
happened? How do I get it working again? TIA.

Open Task Manager and double-click anywhere on the top Window border.
Somehow, you managed to convert Task Manager to run in "Tiny Footprint Mode".

Thank you but that's not the problem. What I'm not seeing anymore is the
processes that are running. Task manager is only showing applications that
are open. I.e. AV program, system32 processes, task manager, etc. are no
longer showing. Therefore I can't end process for these.

Let me further clarify. Previously, I had two tabs at the top of Task
Manager: Applications and processes. Now I don't have any tabs showing. I
also can't shut down from there because there is no shut down button
showing.

Did you at least try what Carey suggested?

Double click the title bar of that window or anywhere within its frame.
Tabs and menus will return. Select any page, double click again and you're
back to a reduced display of the tool - the selected page at the time of
the double click will be the only one shown.

Yes, I did try what Carey suggested. I'm sorry I didn't clarify that before.
Double clicking doesn't seem to do anything except rearrange the order
running programs are listed. Still no tabs visible.

No problem. It can be difficult in written communications to get all of the
details across. If you don't mind, I'm going to ask you to try one more
time. It sounds like you are double clicking on the title bars (Task or
Status) - and that is causing the order of the running programs to change.

Try double clicking above those titles. If the space is too narrow, double
click on the border of the window or down below in the area next to the End
Task button. You want this double click to be on the window's frame - not
anywhere within the window.

All right! Thank you Sharon, everything is back to normal now. This is quite
a relief. Many, many thanks.
