I am trying to put an "ë" in an email by holding down ALT and typing 1-3-7 on the number pad.

My email server interface is HTTP based and I use IE6 to access it.

When I do ALT 1-3-7 on a webiste under IE6, it goes to my default home page???

WHere are these hot keys defined? how do I change them.

thanks in advance,

Is this happening in Hotmail? There've been lots of problems using HTML
format since "New Hotmail" was introduced earlier this week.

It is not any of the famous, public email servers.

Try ALT+0235 for ë instead, Spinlock. Otherwise...

Check your system for "hijackware":

Dealing with Hijackware
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip; [new
URL] ) is the preferred tool to use these days. It will help to both
identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your files to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
