You need to start over and perform a "clean install":
The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:
NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.
1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".
8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

| I'm trying to reformat my harddrive because Win XP is not running as it should. WinXP doesn't shut down,
sometimes it won't go into windows. Sometimes it won't even go into safe mode. I'm getting a page file error.
Then when I go to reinstall WinXP I get an error. When I run setup it goes to the CD key part, restarts
computer then the part where there is an old looking version of setup first asking me if I want to install a
raid or scsi device, then it asks about the ASR, then it goes to starting windows, screen flashs on and off,
comes back on, then a blue screen telling me that there was a problem with windows and that I could restart
computer if I didn't see this error before. Or if I did then turn off any antivirus program, (which I
uninstalled), check harddrive configuration (this harddrive always worked fine before this), and or check for
a new harddrive driver, then restart computer. This keeps going back to the blue screen. I've tried setting
XP in safemode and booting from CD. I've uninstalled every program that I thought would be giving me problems.
How do I go about formating the harddrive and starting over from scratch? Any help will be greatly
appreciated.
