Hi! I am building a transportable pc and I am trying to lower
the height of the case by half. I am considering replacing
the standard p/supply with a notebook p/supply a/c adapter.

Is it workable? What about the connectors? do i need to do any modifications
or get any convertors?

What about video card? Is there any v/card out there that
can channel out the output to a TV and I can work on the programs
life Ms Office 97apps?

Thanks

Most current external laptop power supplies don't provide the voltages
needed for a conventional or even mini-itx motherboard. The needed
voltages are actually generated onboard. There are some Small Form Factor
type designs with very low profiles and external power supplies available
you should look at.

Many of the all-in-one and mini-itx motherboards have TV out, but no TV
out, even on high priced video cards is going to give adequate resolution
to do much work in any Office application. TV doesn't support the
resolution of a modern computer monitor. Maybe when HDTV catches on.

You can't do it. Most only supply a single voltage and of those that
provide multiple voltages, the current they can suplpy is insufficient.

Won't work. Try looking for a power supply made for a 1U server. Something
like this:

http://www.orbitmicro.com/products/power supplies/ac-dc/1u/ACE815A.htm

is what you need. Just make you find one that has the required power
connectors -- I'm pretty sure that the older types didn't have the extra
connector required to power the newer P4-type MBs but the newer ones should.
These supplies usually put out 150-250W and should be sufficient for any
small system.
