I purchased a USB kit for my recently prucased Alps 5000 printer. I
followed all the instructions for loading the driver but have no
success with getting the printer to print. I unistalled and reistalled
four times and got no where. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I bought a kit with a cable and a driver installation CD that was
supposed to allow the printer to use a USB port. Here is the
information I was sent on it. Maybe all these conversion kits are pie
in the sky and don't work. I can't get this on to work as I have
followed the instruction with no results.

This cable, once installed on your computer, serves as a "Port"
that your ALPS printer can print to, rather than the Parallel cable.
The beauty of the setup is that you can use the ALPS driver under the
XP OS (Operating System) and "divert" the output to the USB cable
rather than the Parallel Cable (instructions are included). This way,
you will have access to the full functions of the ALPS printer driver
such as spot colors, etc., (except for the MD-1000) rather than the
limited functions in the driver that is built into XP. Only difference
between the parallel and the USB connection is the little message that
pops up when the printer stops for a new ribbon. You won't get it
with the USB setup but I don't miss it; when the printer stops with
the light flashing I simply open the door and change the ribbon that is
visibly out.
