ALPINE CAR STEREO

I have an older Alpine car stereo and my partner has a newer Alpine car stereo than I.

With WIN95 & 98se I was using the software that came with my burner, HP 9105i, and very FEW errors and each CD I burned worked in the Alpine car stereos like a champ. The software that came with my burner was the predecessor to what HP currently has out (Record Now). Since going to XP, the CD's I burn spin and spin, then it might catch (if I use a TDK CD-R). "IF" the CD starts playing, it must have the chance to play un-interrupted to the end! Yeah, right I live in LA. I've tried burning CD's using Nero, Creative Play Center (Extigy sound card), downloaded Record Now from HP, Windows Media Player, checked everywhere on the WWW and can not find anything related to this problem. I first thought it was just me or my radio, but I had the same experience when someone else burned me a CD using WIN XP. Store bought CD's play with no problem. Other than purchasing new car stereos or partition my computer so that I can have WIN 98se running what can I do? I would like to keep the NTFS file format for all drives.

This post is OT for microsoft.public.word.newusers, a NG for new users of

I burn CDs for my sister all the time to play in her car (Sony stereo) and
she's never complained. I also use Nero, so I can tell you it's nothing
whatsoever to do with XP.

This is nothing to do with Word or even Windows for that matter. It is
caused by a simple mismatch between the media you are using and the write
speed of the writer. Try burning at a speed around the middle of the
recommended speed range of the discs you are using. Alpine players are poor
at reading badly written audio.

Please move this question to one of the CDR newsgroups or mail me via the
link on my web site if you wish to explore this further.

I apologise to the good folk in microsoft.public.word.newusers. I didn't
check to see where he'd cross-posted this to.

One last response to OT post. In my former life as a
CompUSA salesman, we encountered a number of
instances where customers experienced problems
with car stereos failing to play music they had burned
on their home PCs.

Suggested they burn only on CD-R discs as opposed
to CD-RW discs. This proved successful in feedback.
I don't know why but car steroeos seem "touchy"
about media and burning speeds. Try recording at
slow speeds such as 4800.

Good luck.

One final post for this off-topic subject.

In my former life as a CompUSA salesman,
we experienced several customer complaints
about their car stereos being unable to play
the music they burned on their home PCs.

All customers had recorded to CD-RW discs.
Suggested they record music on CD-R discs
instead of CD-RW discs. This worked in all
cases. Can't explain it other than to generalize
that car stereos are more sensitive to media
and recording rates. Give CD-R media a try.
It will probably work.

Also, try recording at a low speed such as
4X.
