AlphaNumeric data always converting to scientific format

I am having difficulty with data that is both numeric and alpha in a spreadsheet. I download the data from a peoplesoft query. It is formatted as 'general' by the query. The excel file is changing the format to scientific when I save the file. I have tried changing the format of the column to text but this does not seem to work. An example of the data is: 115351221E2. Not all of the cells have an alpha character, some are all numeric. Once excel has changed the format, the original data is lost. Any help would be appreciated. I need to link Access and other Excel files to this data. I tried saving it as a .CSV file, I thought this worked, but after using the Access data base twice, the next time I opened it, many of the cells data had reverted to the scientific format. When I opened the .csv file that it was linked to, the same cells were also corrupted. I am ready to scream, any help?

Try saving the query as a .txt file and importing that into Excel. This will
open the text wizard which will give you much more flexibility over how the
data is treated by Excel.
