Among the preferences for Windows Messenger is to Automatically Log on When
Windows Opens. I have unchecked this.
Another is Allow Windows Messenger to Run in the Background. This is checked
by default.
I'm curious as to what, exactly, this means. What happens if I uncheck it?
Does WM shut down when another application is opened?

Hi JD,

I'm sure that setting, when checked, means that if you have the main
messenger window opened and decide to close it, the application will
continue to run with a small messenger icon in the Notification Tray. If
the box was unchecked, when you close the main messenger window, you would
be terminating program execution.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Fred. I have observed that when I close the WM window an icon
remains in the notification area. Then it has to be exited to close it
completely.
