I have about 20 XP Pro machines in a domain. Users need the ability to
install various programs. Some of these programs refuse to install if the
user is not a member of the administrators group. I'd rather not make them
members of the administrators group on the local machines but would be
willing to so long as I can prevent two things.
1. The users can't change azny aspects of my user account on their local
machines.
2. The users can't remove the machine from the domain.

Is there any way I can allow the users to install programs and still retain
control of these machines?

I'm sorry, but that won't work. Once they are admins, you cannot
limited them much, cause they can revert anything you do to them. The
best way is to put them in the Power Users group of install that apps
yourself or even better user Group policy to install that
applications.
