Allow transparency of non ppt objects

I just want an option to make somethng (like a photo) a little transparent,
without having to edit it in something like PhotoShop (then save it, hope
it's correct, paste it in there again and notice its still off just a
tad....). I know you can do it cuz you have an animation effect that makes
things transparent. But I don't want to have to animate it to do that, for
one thing it won't show up in print (handouts), and its a pain to not be able
to see it in edit mode. So obviously it can be done and the logic already
exists. PLEASE ALLOW ANIMATION OF NON PPT OBJECTS.

Thank you!

Paul
