Allow PPT comparisons on any two PPT files

I could swear that in the old days, I could do this, butr here is what
happened today"...

I am trying to just compare two presentations that I know are very similar.
In fact, I suspect there may be no change. In previous versions of
PowerPoint, I ws able to select Tools->CompareAndMergePresentations and get a
decent (though not always great) comparison. Now, when I try that feature
with either file, I am told "FILENAME.ppt is a copy of your presentation that
contains a reviewer's changes. To compare the changes with the original,
open the original presentation and then merge the reviewer's copy into the
original."

I don't even have the original of this file. I have tried turning on the
ReviewingToolbar so that I can "AcceptAllChanges" in one version or the
other, but neither version even shows any changes whatsoever! PowerPoint has
taken a sad step backwards with less flexibility.

GIVE ME A BASIC COMPARISON capability that doesn't care who sent whom
email!!!!! The value of comparing two similar PowerPoint files cannot be
overestimated! In fact, I often resort to a linux-based 'cmp' just to be
sure two files are identical, but I know that PowerPoint could handle
comparisons so much more elegantly!

Great idea! I've had the same problem where I've worked on a presentation to
make it look better, and then get revision from the presenter. I either have
to go through and manually compare for what might be a single slide change or
redo the presentation over again. Compare would make it a lot easier to find
changes in a hurry.

I think I found a way around this.

Make a copy of the file as something like "X.ppt".

Open the new file and save it as a "Presentation for Review (*.ppt)" as
something like X1.ppt.

Then click "Tools" and "Compare and Merge Presentations..." and select the
other file (i.e. "X.ppt").

Click "End Review" on the Reviewing toolbar and answer "Yes" to the question
that pops up (i.e. that you want to end the review).

Save the file. (I chose to overwrite the "X.ppt" file.) This file can now be
compared to another file.

This works for me... I hope it works for you too.

Good luck!

When I have one .ppt file an another that was sent for review to someone else
and then back to me again, I have the following prompt:

One or more of your presentations was not sent for review.

It is like PPT doesn't keep track that the file was sent for review, had
comments inserted, etc. was returned and saved as a file.

The tools>compare and merge presentations does not recognize the "send to
mail recipient for review" file and thus I don't get anywhere.

I am able to open the attachment and select YES to merge into original;
however, I would like to be able to use the merge and compare presentations
feature.

Any ideas?
