allow design changes

I have been using MS Access 2000 for several years for a few simple
databases. All of a sudden I cannot open the properties box in my forms or
queries. I can in the reports. This is globally throughout all 3 of my
seperate databases. I have tried changing the allowdesignchanges to true,
but only on the individual form level, even when changed to true it still
does not work. When I select the properties in the for design all the
windows become inactive, like it appears but nothing.

I am a pretty novice Access user, and have been searching help and the
community forums with no luck, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brent Matson

It is possible that the box is off screen.

Try this:
1. Open a form in design view.

2. Hold down Alt, and hit Enter.
You should see the form lose focus (to the invisible properties box.)

3. Hold down Alt, and hit Space.
This drops down the control box for the off screen properties box,
(though you may not see it.)

4. Hit M (for Move).

5. Repeatedly press the Up and Left arrows to bring the box back onto
screen.

6. When you see it, press Enter to complete the move.

Alternatively, you could edit the registry entry directly while Access is
closed:

1. Open RegEdit.

2. Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\x.0\Access\Settings
where x is your version of Access.

3. Find the corresponding key FormPopPropST.

4. Set the string to something like this: 1;20;140;300;500

Allen,
