Dear Friends,

1) My system configuration is as follow:
OS= Winxp Professional
CPU= 1.8Ghz, 512KB cache
Memory= DDR 256MB (266Mhz)

2) My default "virtual memory" allocation to my harddisk is as follow:
Partition 1 (C:) = 384 MB default
Partition 2 (D:) = 0 MB

Will I be able to improve system performance by allocating more "virtual
memory" to my harddisk drive?
How much more for each partition?

Thanks alot,
Merrvyn

Not really. The only way to really improve performance of the pagefile
(virtual memory) is to one: Set it to a hard fixed value. With 256mb of
memory, I would go with 512mb of pagefile size. Second (and the best) would
be to have the pagefile on a second hard drive that is installed on the
other IDE channel. This is my normal way of setting up high end
workstations. The second hard drive has a small (2 gig) partition as it's
first partition, and the pagefile is set to run only on that partition. This
not allows XP to access program and system files while it accesses the
pagefile, but it also prevents the pagefile from scattering around on the XP
installed partition (leads to more hard drive hunting).
