In Access 2000 I'm trying to get a column of controls and labels to
align with equal vertical spacing.

What usually happens is that I select all the controls and labels in the
column, use Format-Vertical Spacing-Make Equal and then either the
labels or the controls move but they rarely both move, which isn't a
great deal of good.

I'm clearly doing something badly wrong...

Any chance the labels are not "attached" to the text controls?

I seem to recall that the labels followed the text controls when I only
selected the text controls for adjusting vertical spacing (when the labels
were attached) -- this could be a "false memory", though!

That's true. If for some reason you've deleted a label
for a control and then gone back and put a
new "unassociated" label next to the control the spacing
function won't work properly. If you select the control
or the label and both the control and label are selected
then the labels and controls are "attached".

If you do alignments, selecting just the textbox will mean that the label
attached to the textbox does not move. And, if you select both the textbox
and its attached label, both are aligned -- but to the same location,
meaning that the label loses its original, relative location with respect to
the textbox.

In short, aligning groups of controls that have labels attached means you
should align the controls (without selecting the labels), and then aligning
the labels (without selecting the controls).
