Hi All

Hardware
Intel P4-2.4G, 120G HD, 1G DDR 133 Mem, Canopus ADVC 50 DV outputting to an on-board IEEE 1394 card on an ASUS P4B533-E motherboard

Software
WinXP Pro - SP1 installed, Ulead Movie Factory 2; ScenalyzerLive, Windows MovieMake

Problem
Occasionally, with all 3 programs, capturing will stop abruptly anywhere from 3 minutes to 5 hours. With the exception of MovieMaker, when the capturing hangs, the computer locks up tight and requires a reboot before capturing can be restarted.

MovieMaker, on the other hand, stops/locks, but can be closed (without a reboot) to regain control of the computer and the capturing hardware/software

Also, MovieMaker is the only application of the 3 that gives some useful information in the events viewer. "Application hang: movimkr.exe; moduleHang: cmaudio.ax"

ScenalyzerLive: Crashes computer after anywhere from 3 minutes to 4 hours or not at all. Locks up computer solid requiring a reboot. Crashes are quite frequent and messy
MovieFactory2: Crashes computer after anywhere from 6 minutes to 5 hours. Crashes far less than Scenalyzer. About 1 to 5. Crash is messy and requires a reboot
MovieMaker: Application hangs, cmaudio.ax module hangs, but can be closed with far more 'grace' than the other 2. Crashes are far less than the other two applications

ScenalyzerLive support suggested updating sound card drivers, which I did. I have also gone through the process of disabling the onboard AC97 sound card and installing an SBLive card. Tried both old and newest drivers for both, with NO difference in the crashing problems

As you may appreciate, this problem is driving me crazy :) :). If you have experienced this 'elusive' problem I would be ecstatic if you could advise me as to what I need to do, to be able to count on a 100% continuous capture

Thanks in advance

Kindest regards

David

David,

Thanks for the detailed error message notes.... See the Problem Solving >
Acceleration and Codecs page of www.papajohn.org

one of the listed codecs that is known to clash with MM2 is cmaudio.ax

Hi there,

Thanks for that info. I will look at including it in my Codec Renaming
program which temporarily renames known problem codecs...its in the video
section of my website
