hi,

this morning i noticed i wasnt able to connect on msn messenger... it
told me the ports could be closed. so i shut nod32 (the only security
utility i had), and made a test on grc.com shields up. i noticed all
my ports were closed. not stealth or open. i probed prots 1 thru 1024,
and the 65535, and found they were ALL closed, except two, (135, open,
and 445, open).

i ran a HJT, nothing noticeable. i ran a little search on google, and
found some post with the same problem. they asked if he had a nvidia
video card or chipset or i dont know. he answered no. but I do! i have
an eVGA 7600GT on PCIe, and I installed the latest nvidia drivers back
in march 07. is this linked?

since yesterday (msn working), i installed and uninstalled nothing, i
just did some reboots. closing the nvidia icon in the systray solved
nothing.

any ideas? know whats happenning?

thanks for reading

What about firewalls ? While I don't use them myself, I think
WinXP SP2 might have its own firewall, and also, if you have
an Athlon64 board with Nvidia chipset, some of those chipsets
have a firewall of sorts as well. Check to see if some firewall
is operational and no longer configured the way you had it.

Also, how many Ethernet ports does your motherboard have ?
Have you been playing with Internet Connection Sharing ?

i have 1 port on my motherboard and its an intel pro something (i have
an asus p5ld2-vm on an intel 945 chip). also, no playing with ICS...

XP firewall? Router? also try reinstalling a firewall utility to
enable all traffic again.
