all not well after installing Intellimouse 5

I downloaded and installed version 5 of Intelimouse yesterday. I have an
Optical mouse and after installation the left and right side buttons no
longer scroll up and back in picture/fax viewer in Outlook Express but this
is OK in Explorer or My Computer. I use XPPro SP1. Any ideas as to how to
get both working again as it was usfull at times.
 
Go into control panel and open the mouse icon. You should be able to assign
any function you want to the buttons.
 
IntelliMouse 5 is ONLY good for the new mice, the ones with the
tilt-wheel. Uninstall it and install 4.12, the last one for us
old-timers.
 
What makes you say that?

There is an option in version 5 to pick from 16 different mouse types
including all of the microsoft versions. I am now using the newest
mouse with the tilt wheel, but before I upgraded, I used version 5 on
my old mouse with no trouble.

perhaps MS has fixed it finally; original version 5.00 from about 1 month
ago broke all older mice; application specific features were not supported
as in version 4. ms pulled the download from the general mouse page.
