My xp media player suddenly decided it can't play my c.d.s
(has been fine before) and keeps trying to access the
internet(though I don't have access).the tracklisting then
goes red.Tried to "system restore" but all of a sudden all
the music in my media library has disappeared!Nightmare!
Would anyone have any idea about the initial problem or
how to retrieve my music?Any help would be greatly
appreciated.I'm slightly distraught!thanks,Rodge.

Don't panic.
Sounds like it has merely lost the references to where your music is
stored - NOT the actual music itself....

Try this:
Launch Windows Media Player, then press F3.... this brings up the "Add to
Media Library by Searching Computer" dialog box.
There are settings in there that you could experiment with, but since you
seem to have lost everything, I'd click the "Search On:" drop-down, and
select ALL DRIVES....

The program will then scour your hard drive(s), looking for media files that
it could play.... you may be surprised at just how many it finds, so if you
have ANY IDEA where your music files were stored.... try setting it to
search there, instead.

Or,

One thing to try first, I suppose, is to click START/search/ and search for
"music" (without the quotes) that will confirm whether or not you have
really lost your data.

Good Luck,
