I am using an ASUS 880 TV tuner card that is giving me fits. Whenever
I need to reinstall the OS it takes forever to figure out how to load
the drivers as they will not do so normally with the WinXP I use.

Wondering if users of the ATI AIW cards have had better success. Also
perhaps other brands. I like being able to use the computer as a
digital video recorder but this particular card simply is too much
trouble.

The key is always install the drivers before the application, ie MMC. Just
go to the control panel and you will see the exclamation point at the
"unknown multimedia device" click to install the drivers, and point to where
they are. XP will do the rest, as long as you show it where the drivers are.
Once that is done, then you can install ATI Multi-Media Center.
I used to have an AIW Radeon, and remember having fits until I learned to
correctly install all the software. I currently use Leadtek Winfast TV 2000
XP, and have found it to be wonderful. I use it to capture video from my
camera also and it does a great job, high quality mpeg2.

Good Luck!

Without the device present the drivers won't install!

I put an AverTV Stereo card in my wife's computer and we've had no
problems with it. The drivers installed very easily. The only downside
is the software that comes with it to record video isn't that great.
Which is fine, I bought PowerVCR which is fantastic.

I have personally owned AIW cards for my own computers and I love them.
In fact, last month, I upgraded to an AIW 9800 Pro. The capture quality
is outstanding and Windows XP supports the cards directly. So installed
drivers and software could not have been more simple.

When I upgrade my wife's computer in a month or two, I'm upgrading her
to an AIW card.

I've used two ATI AIW cards, one was a radeon card, both cards
were hassle-free to install and use. Personally I wouldn't use any
other brand because ATI make very good tv cards.
