The AIWP barely works in Windows 98SE, never mind XP. It's way obsolete (and
yes, I do still use one myself in my "old games" PC).

Well I have to admit I was comparing it to win98 not SE performance.

and with P300 I was able to capture mpeg1 atleast without frame drops (
actullay if I didn't touch anything I could do svcd but as soon as I touched
the mouse there were frame drops)

now I am using xp athlon 2000 and 1.5 gigs of ram and dropping 20-30% frames
on mpeg1. this is rediculous

PIII 800eb 512r 128 pro been using it up to last year, picked up a 7500aiw for 118us then a 9700...the 128 works great and still
does. I capture in mpeg2 DVD 720x480 NTSC no problems. You need media encoder 7.1 or better loaded. you have to have the latest 'WDM
capture' drivers for your version of the Video driver your using. if you've done all this, try turning off /change the video bios
settings. Many people activate 'fast writes' and the 128 'no likey' that, for instance. shadowing? irq reserved? aperture? DMA
enabled? DVD decoders installed?

P.S. windows 98se & 'Me' XP gave me problems because of some native windows drivers and the tuner and capture were affected.....I
used the drivers that were on the ATI site at the time (might have been the 7192's) and it worked fairly well, but no more 720x480
high quality. This started me seriously doubting XP's legacy support, and as it turns out I it wasn't far off.

By chance are you using the latest drivers from the ati website. Try an
earlier set., I know the current 98/ME drivers will make a 20-30% drop on
98se over the ones that come with 98 & 98 SE. I install the capture drivers
from the website then change the video driver to the rage II driver instaed
of the AIW. This keeps the capture drivers, as long as you do not uninstall
them, and you see a great improvement in the capture rate.
Also copy an existing profile instead of creating a new one. It does make a
difference.

I have a friend who uses an AIW Pro under NT 2000 - and whenever the TV
tuner is active everything else is VERY slow. That could be part of the
problem (unreasonable CPU usage). You might want to look at picking up an
old AIW 7500... this should work no problem.
