Are all in ones, those printer/scanner/copier worth the money? Upsides?
Downsides?

I happen to like them a lot. I bought a PSC 950 for my son for college a few
years ago, then ended up buying one for myself. Currently I am using a PSC
Photosmart 2510, which has card slots, copy, fax, scan with built-in networking
(both wired and 802.11b wireless). As a printer it is very similar to the
DeskJet 5650, with the added capability to scan, fax and copy. I have used a
scanner with a software program to make copies in the past; a standalone unit
is much faster as all the processing is done in the unit without needing to
send data to the PC.

The biggest upsides I see are in space (the AIO units are about the same desk
space as a printer) and convenience. The AIO units are typically a bit more
expensive than standalone printers, but less expensive than buying a separate
fax, scanner and printer.

What are your needs - do you need fax, photo printing, card slots, color or B&W
only? Do you want a sheet feeder or is single page fax/copy ok? What is the
expected monthly print volume? (Home user or small business?)

I have the HP PSC 1205
for under £100 i thought it a good buy, its compact and as a stand alone
copy and scan, no fax, the only downside i have found is that it will not
default to grey scale or print b/white, when i e-mailed the help desk, the
just told me to take the colour cartridge out every time i just wanted to
print text, which is a real drag

I have an HP PSC 750XI which I love and I can select the option to print in gray scale -
I don't understand why people are saying they can't with newer models?

I have downloaded the .pdf spec files for the 2410 and 2510 and noticed
something odd. These look like basically the same machine, with the 2510
having the added networking capability. That is to say, all of the specs
appear to be the same...EXCEPT the scan speed, which is listed as 33
seconds per page for the 2410 and 25-27 seconds for the 2510. Does this
indicate a hardware difference or a software difference?

Also, for both models the "maximum document scan size" is stated as 8.5
x 11 in. Does that mean that they can't read all of an A4 page (which is
a bit longer than 11 inches)?

cheers,

Henry

Bob, as near as I can tell, HP hasn't actually begun selling the PSC
2510 (to the general public), though it was announced a while ago.
Any idea when the PSC 2510 will be available to the rest of us?

Sorry, I do not know.

I just checked and the scanner glass is marked to A4 size. I loaded a paper in
the A4 position and was able to scan down to within 1.5mm of the bottom of the
A4 page. The spec's that say 8.5x11" are probably based on the US spec's.

I suspect it should be available soon. HP generally does not announce details
of new models until they are actually ready to be in stores as it puts a dent
in current sales. I did find a site that indicated it would be available in
October.
