Hi.
I'm looking to buy a new all-in-one (print, copy, scan)printer and was
hoping for some advice. I've been offered a Lexmark 4550 but the reviews
aren't great and I'm a uni student who needs to do a lot of printing!
These are the main things I care about:
1. Fast printing times
2. Preferably auto-duplex (not essential)
3. Wireless wouldn't be bad but again not essential
4. Cheap running costs.
5. Good quality black and white text
6. Good quality colour pictures, not photos, just diagrams etc

Any suggestions would be most welcome. Even a suggestion for where to
get advice would be good. I generally use trustedreviews.com. Obviously
the cheap and more space efficient the better but if it's worth spending
a bit more I will.

Thanks in anticipation.

Kodak is promoting their AiO printers as affordable printers (low cost
ink and papers.) I just got myself a Brother MFC 645CN printer
recently and it seem to be good. 4 colour ink cartridges permit you
to only change the one empty cartridge instead of the 3 colour one.
Brother is promoting the inkjet AiOs as a "space saver" style printers
(2 models have built-in wireless networking with telephone,
speakerphone and digital answering machine.)

I personaly will not look at any Lexmark inkjet printers since Lexmark
is rummered to have special IC chips in their ink cartridge which has
ink expriy dates.

OPPS! Make the Brother model as MFC-465CN instead of 645CN.

I have also just replaced by HP 5610 with a Brother MFC-465cn.

The set up was extremely easy, and while it doesn't have built-in WiFi
capabilities, it does have LAN capabilities so it was simple to just
plug it into my wireless router, and use it from any of my laptops
without having to have my desktop turned on. (It also has USB
connectivity.)

It performs as advertised, and while I never set up the fax
capabilities of my HP, I did with this one and it works like a charm.
AND it is a color fax as well.

Bottom line - I am happy with my purchase.

There are several "higher" Brother models that offer built-in wireless
network along with telephone handsets, speakerphone and digital
answering machine,

MFC-640CW
MFC-685CW
MFC-885CW -- Wireless telephone handset.

These look like a perfect fit for student dorms.
