I am looking to buy an all-in-one machine and would like to hear any
If you're in the US then Epson hold the patent to print on CD/DVD so you
will HAVE to look at only their range of All in Ones.
Actually I thought that it was a phillips patent issue, and canon
didn't want to pay. This would explain why CD prining was available in
the i series (i865 i965) just not in america, and how other companies
can make dedicated inkjet cd printers. I don't know this for a fact
but I do know anyone who wants a Canon model can look
http://pixma.webpal.info/ here and enable the feature on the pixma
series.
For north americans, you have the Epson RX700. No fax but 6 tank
printer (light cyan light magenta) . I have no direct experence with
this product. Near as i'm aware this is the *only* option in epson.
PictBridge is supported as well as memory slots.
For everyone else, or for those who don't mind ordering a cd tray on
e-bay, there is canon. The only model that supports fax is the mp780.
-pre september models-
mp750 - Doc feeder & CD printing NO fax
mp760 - Slide scanner w/ color screen media slots & cd printing NO fax
mp780 - Doc feeder & CD printing NO fax
All the above are 5 tank printers (Big pigment black for text)
-post september models-
mp500 - 5 tank unit media slot printing
mp800 - 5 tank slide scanner slide & media slot printing bigger screen
2400 dpi scanner
mp950 - 7 tank (pigment black light cyan light magenta) 3200dpi
scanner.
Note someone said the mp450 might support cd printing but the canon
site makes no reference to it at all. And the tanks are not seperate,
only a pair of cartridges each with head onboard.
I can speak about the mp760. I own this, I print CDs on this. Text is
top notch, and the photo printing is very passable. I found it to be
more reliable than the Epson r200 (printer only) and doesn't waste as
much ink. No idea about the newer models. The post september models
feature 9600 x 2400 dpi and 1pl drops (except the mp450). They are far
too young to have any reliable reviews.
Generally speaking if your main application is photos... Epson is a
good choice even if they are fickle and require cleaning. However if
your main application is printing text, all the canon all in ones offer
a pigment black which is actually rather spiffy and the photos are
nothing to sneeze at. Epson has other models offering pigment colors
but not in an all in one with CD printing.
But if you own a digital camera most stores are agreeable to you
comming in with your own photo paper (your favorite or the OEM paper)
and printing off the same picture on the various printers, so long as
you leave the images there. You get an idea of what the output is and
the staff pictures they can show others who are shopping for printers.
