Happy Holidays. I am having trouble gettng my new HP all
in one to work with XP. I am able to load the software,
the computer recognizes that the printer is there, but
then I get an error message saying "cannot update system
files" as there is a problem with my twain driver. Short
of doing a complete system restore back to the beginning
of time (something I definitely want to avoid), can any
one offer any other suggestions. I have searched the
world over for a solution (neither Microsoft or HP can
help me with my problem). I don't have any other
scanners connected to my computer, though I do have a
laser printer / fax connected by parallel port and a
photo printer connected by USB (though when I uninstall
both of these in hopes of connecting my all-in-one, the
same problem occurs).

I really appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Happy Holiday yourself, Anymouse.

Sounds like somebody has a new toy that won't work huh?
Don't fret 'cause I just did this yesterday with mine. If
nothing else works try:

1. Load theHP CD, and "uninstall" first. I guess this
helps unconflict software registries...
2. Let the "plug-and-play" re install the printware for
you. (assuming you have USB) I had to let this run then
click the lower right "Active Icon" 5 or 6 times. Each
infomed me another sub-function was detected. Then
installed too.
3. If this worked then, log onto the HP website and check
for any software patches for the model you've got. Mine
had several available...
Hopefully, you'll be up and printing before X-mas!
Good luck. Stewart
