All in One Capture, Author, Burn?

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but why does everyone make you
go through such a fragmented process to capture DV, edit, author and burn a
DVD? I think this is the basic process most of us making video are trying to
do. Is the direct DVD support in Media Center 2005 any better working with
Movie Maker 2? Or do you still need Sonic MyDVD or something like that after
you create an AVI file in Movie Maker?
This reminds me of the days of command line DOS computers. They seem to have
made this almost too much trouble to bother with.

For my personal videos I usually do it in a simple 2 step process.... save
movies as DV-AVI files using Movie Maker 2, and use MyDVD 4.5 to make
DVDs... they work great.

iMovie working with iDVD on a Mac is the same.... save the movie with one
app and use the other to make the DVD.

For those who want or need higher quality than the 2 step process, I
recommend using TMPGEnc to render the MPEG-2 files... so it becomes a 3 step
process.

I don't use MCE2005 but I've checked with Microsoft and found that it's
similar to Photo Story 2 and VCDs.... one movie per DVD. I usually want a
number of movies on a DVD, so I'd still by using other DVD software.

Hello,

The DVD method in Media Center is a CON !!!!!

Movie Maker (ANY VERSION) CAN NOT MAKE A DVD. PERIOD

However, what microsoft have done is execute a ShellExecute command to run your
own copy that you paid for separately of a DVD Authoring package.....but only
if you bought the right program......

If you want an all in one program...then Nero 6 Reloaded is the beast for you,
or....if you only intend to create single layer disks...Dazzle DVD Complete (If
you can track down a copy because Pinnacle scrapped it when they bought Dazzle)

Its all a case of who do you listen to..."Experts" who jest loooove that free
program or those more staid people who like to see a computer do what its
supposed to do...work for you and not the other way around :) Take note: If
anyone says get the free TMPGenc program its the best in the world...Well it
may have been the best once, but, ITS NOT FREE !! you have to pay for it when
the trial period is over...and all that IT does is encode the video (And this
was not a dig at you Bob)

Nero is brilliant at all aspects and does an excellent job with Dual Layer
disks on my Sony burner 10 out of 10....but only 7 out of 10 for the editing
part....the effects and transitions are very good, but its a bit of a fiddle
moving around the time line......and I think I have just this moment realised a
better way of doing that...but you will have to check the tutorial I am still
witting on Nero (See my website) The nice thing about Nero is that the "Techy"
stuff is hidden away so as not to confuse, but if you really want to get stuck
in it lets you do that as well, not as much as DVD Complete but more than most
people will ever want/need/understand

I am lucky in that a friend owns a distribution company and he gives me the
pick of the free samples. I often find that he likes programs that I hate, and
every so often he raves about a program which I would put in the "Its OK it
does its job" category which is only half way up my scale.
I suggest you try Nero www.nero.com download the 30 day trial (Demo) and give
it a go (You Need Download numbers one and two I think...whatever...I do not
like the program InCD which is another story so I did not install it this
time), what do you have to loose ?....I have already written the tutorial
(prior this message) on how to edit the time line and I think I am going to be
able to improve it quite a lot....you can edit on a per frame basis...something
you cannot do in movie maker. IF you truly do not like it this URL will take
you to the tool that fully gets rid of it from your system

ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/General-CleanTool.zip

Have Fun.

I tried MyDVD 4.5 but it will not play in my player (Philips DVD615). I get
the Title page but it will not play. Any ideas?

Have been using DVDPixPlay and it works great!

Maybe it has to do with the type of disc used.... I'm using DVD-R discs
and I've yet to find a player they won't work in.

It can be the player. I have an older Daewoo player
that won't play any "home burned" DVD of *any*
flavor. It just continually tries to load, and eventually
displays "no disc" in the display. It'll play VCD, SVCD,
MP3... just about everything *except* a burned DVD.

OK, I bought Nero for 69.00 or whatever. There are a whole bunch of
components to this, including that editor thing. I found I can import an
..avi file (don't remember if I made that .avi in Movie Maker or not) and
also a .wmv file. From there, does Nero encode MPEG2, author, and burn a
DVD? If so, this is what I'll use. (FYI-my brother convinced me to get Nero
anyway as a CD burner--said it is the best there is).

Hello,

If you allow Nero to do the full job you do not need to know what file
formats are created....but, as far as I can tell it goes straight to the VOB
format for DVD's (Vob is a special form of MPeg)

As a disk burner...it is very highly regarded....to see how much, check
the Nero website every now and then and try to download the latest update
just after it becomes available. They have 9 ftp servers as far as I can
tell in Germany, USA and Japan and when a new release comes out it can take
a very long time to download the updates (in comparison to the time an
equivalent file size could normally be downloaded)

A typical cheap jack....fancy wasting money on that....takes a special kind
of person to do that
