All data files missing - virus??

Johnny Canuck

A student of mine reports all her data files went missing the other day,
except her Photoshop files. She lost her school work, .doc files, .xls
files, .txt files, everything. The recycle bin is empty. Otherwise, as far
as she knows, her system is working OK. She has Norton Antivirus, although
it may be badly out of date. I want to help her reover her files, if
possible.

Is there a virus that specifically sweeps an entire computer deleting all
data files (except Photoshop)? What are her chances of recovery?

On the third of December? It should have been November 6th, if it had
been Klez.E. And that Virus/Worm hybrid does unrecoverable damage.
