yeah, well I really do hate it when some of these "tech" site make bold statmens that are NOT true.

True the ZIF socket made things a lot easier, but I'm sorry, I can replace 286/386 CPUs with no bother ... they were NOT soldered in their sokets, well not all of 'em ... I still have my "chip" removal tool. :p


Good reference though. ;)
 
My first build was a 386, only Intel CPU I've ever owned, and the CPU was soldered into the board.

No heat sink on the CPU, tiny board, a PCI slot which took a board where you plugged your harddrives and floppy drives into.

Ah, memories :)
