Aligning images inside tables

Sometimes after I insert an image in a table---I can't center it.
A tag align=left seems to be inserted in the html.
And I must go and delete this tag before I can center the image.
The icon for centering won't have any effect unless I remove the tag.

How can I prevent this tag from appearing?

No.....I didn't before..........but I will look into that.....Thanks

You should be setting the cell properties to center. Are you?

I'm curious why Front Page uses the "align" tag when <center> works the same
way.

<center> is deprecated

The <center> element is exactly equivalent to the align="center"
attribute, so it does not matter which one you use, but <center>
requires a closing tab </center> which means careful nesting and more
to go wrong, the attribute does not.
Both methods are deprecated in HTML4 and later; use CSS to align
objects.
