aligning dates

I have dates in the format yyyy mmm dd. If I use a font like Arial the days(dd portion) don't line up. How can I align them without using a fixed width font; maybe via number formatting codes(just a shot in the dark)?

They sure seem to line up for me.

If you change the zoom factor to 100% does it look ok?

If yes, then maybe this post by Debra Dalgleish will help:

You can change a registry setting to prevent this from happening (make a
backup copy of the registry first):

1. From the Start button, choose Run
2. Type regedit then click OK
3. Click the + sign to the left of HKEY_CURRENT_USER
4. Open Software, Microsoft, Office, 9.0, Excel, Options
5. Choose Edit>New>DWORD Value
6. Type the name for the DWORD: FontSub
7. Press Enter to complete the renaming
8. Choose Edit>Modify
9. Type 0 as the value, select Decimal, and click OK
10. Close the Registry Editor

=====
That 9.0 will vary with your version of excel.

What I mean is that in, let's say,

2004 Jul 14
2004 Nov 14

the numbers 14 don't fall exactly below one another *unless* I use the Courier font(which is a fixed width font).
Does your solution work for such cases too?

Ah, I see it with those dates.

I don't know a way without changing the font to non-proportional.
