Help! When working with 2 columns I cannot get the text
to properly line up, the text in column 2 is off and I
cannot tab it into place, any suggestions?

Are you using tabbed columns, snaking columns, or a table? See the following

Snaking columns or newspaper columns are where a column reaches the bottom
of the page (or section) it flows to the top of the next adjacent column.
The opposite is where the column continues down to the next page making one
long column throughout the document.
