I am using PowerPoint 2000 SP3
and I have inserted a Clipart Movie of a line, but the line is horizontal
and I need it to be vertical,
how do I do that?

please advise

Daniel

Are you talking about an animated gif? If so you can click on it, click the
"Draw" button on the Drawing Toolbar, select "Rotate or flip", then select
wither "Rotate left" or "Rotate right" depending on your needs. That might
work.

Yes,

I am talking about an animated GIF but when I click on it then on the draw
button, all the options under "rotate or flip" are greyed out.

Any ideas on what else to try?

regards

Daniel

One thing you can try (at least it has worked for me occasionally) is to
right-click on the object and select "Grouping", "Ungroup". You might get a
message saying that "this is not a Microsoft Object..., would you like to
convert it...". Click "Yes", then try the features on the Draw menu again.
I just tried it with an animated gif that I had and it worked just fine.

Bill, are you sure that you are doing this with an animated GIF? You can't
rotate or ungroup pictures, which is what an animated GIF is.

Nope, I haven't had to try it on an animated gif before and I didn't think
it would really work, but I did try inserting an animated gif onto a slide
and was able to rotate it. Not sure why Dan's wouldn't. I have tried this
method before with other images (clipart, etc.) and just threw it out as a
possible suggestion. If nothing else, it will work for other clipart
images!

Hey, when I grab at straws, I dig deep into the pile of hay! HA!

Still not letting Bill off the hook, Sonia gives him one more poke.

Animated GIF's and other images cannot be rotated in PowerPoint 2000, which
is what Daniel is using. That feature was introduced with PowerPoint 2002.

Daniel, there are ways to "fix" the animated GIF outside of PowerPoint, but
in PowerPoint 2000 it will play as it was originally designed, i.e.,
horizontally. In PowerPoint 2000 you could animate your own line, depending
on what you want it to do. Maybe you can tell us what you want it to do?

Sonia and Bill

Thanks for your help.

I am trying to give a sense of directional motion to
a flow chart, the animated Gif (Clip Art Movie) I am trying to use has a
rolling forward pattern, it is fine on the horizontal but I need up and down
as well.
If there is some other way to animate my own line that would be great.

thanks again

Daniel

Oh yeah, throw that in my face! Just for that I'm gonna revert back to
Office 2000 so I can't make this mistake again! HA! Oh heck, I'll just go
back to Office 95 so I can't do anything! <VBG>

Well, if you're willing to do some work, you can open the file in GIF
Construction Set (http://www.mindworkshop.com/) or Animation Shop, rotate
the frames and resave the GIF. That will give you an animated GIF with a
vertical orientation.
