Why are Alex Nichol's posts not "threading," or is he intentionally not
"Reply'ing to Group" ? ...and so each reply becomes a new post / thread !

regards, Richard

Hi Richard,

His posts are threading fine for me. Try resetting the "group by
conversation" view.

View/Current view/Group by conversation

If it's on, turn it off, then turn it on again.

no, just normal use am i doing! (....I sound like that little green man in
Star wars).

It's just that I do a lot of reading in this NG and I noticed a "heavy"
sprinkling of Alex Nichol's posts and gradually became irritated because I
can't seem to find the orginal post, to which he is replying ....on each one
!

regards, Richard

Hi Nutcase

I did what you suggested - made no difference.

I'm sure that he's intentionally starting a new thread, by the very
nature of the structure of the contents of each of his posts. Each
of his posts, appearing as a new post starts, " *.* wrote :-" then
he pastes in a portion of the orginal postee text, and then he
answers it !!

I checked his contributions to a couple of the threads you
mention below. He does not start a new thread in any of them, and
the messages are threaded properly.

Whatever the problem you're seeing is, it's either at your end or
with the news server you are using.

Hi Richard,

I suspect you have not downloaded enough messages, or you have a view
applied. Every post I see from Alex in this group is threaded to an original
post.

There is nothing specific to the posts themselves. The only point I can
think of, is that in the nature of Time Zones and work patterns, it can
be some time between a post =being made in the US evening and my
replying to it - maybe next UK afternoon. And this group gets around
1000 posts a day. If you are just using the standard OE 'get 300 posts'
you may be getting mine but have missed getting the one it responds to.
I suggest if you are regularly visiting here that in OE Tools - Options
- Read, you uncheck the 'Get 300 at a time' (or at least put it up to
the maximum 1000) and so ensure that you do get everything
