Greetings,

Having recently gotten a new computer with Windows
Messenger 4.7 and having installed the MSN add-in, I
expected the Alerts bell to show up in Messenger as it
did with MSN. However, it does not. I have also noticed
that this icon has disappeared from my copy of Messenger
at home which used to display it. Is there some change
in Messenger that would explain this? Do I have to
install MSN instead (or Messenger 5.0 when it is
available) in order to regain this functionality?

You should verify that the messenger properties are set-up to automatically
log you in and display notifications when you log in. To do this:
1. open messenger and select Tools -> Options
2. Select the Preferences tab and verify that the appropriate
preferences are set

Greetings Karen,

Thanks for the response. I don't see a relevant
preference in my copy of Messenger at work. Every option
is checked, however. I will check my copy at home to see
if there are additional preferences that might have
become unchecked recently, but I believe it only has
these same options. I am still stumped.

Greetings Jonathan,

Thanks, I will install it now and disable Windows
Messenger.

Greetings Francis,

The Alerts tab is no longer available, but you should
still be able to get .NET Alerts. If
you want the alerts tab, you will need to install MSN
Messenger 6 for this functionality:
http://messenger.msn.com

As well, Windows Messenger 5 will not have the alerts tab either.
