Alerter without Workstation

Has anyone here tried to get the Alerter service working without needing the
Workstation service? Is there anyway to dis-associate the Alerter service
other than the DependOnService reg entry?

If not, does anyone know of a third party utility that will perform the same
function as the Alerter service without having to install the Client for
Microsoft Network software?

Thanks.

Mark

There's nothing 3rd party that I know of. Keep in mind you need to the
workstation service to initial connection to other resources etc. This is
crucial for most operations. But you can delete the dependency as you
indicated by modifying the registry.
