I'm not really into games - and so don't know the good sources - but a
fried keeps going on about a game called alchemy, which he says is
highly addictive. Do you know of a safe freeware version that can be
downloaded rather than played online?

It's an Ishido game.
Try perhaps 'Runelegen' on my Ishido section (see adress in sig to the
Solitaire mahjongg site)

I don't know if I would want to provide a "fried" with more alchemy...:0)
and how can something that's addictive be safe???
