Hi, I was cleaning my computer and puting in some new parts to my
computer, a new X-connect power supply, 256 more ram, and puting in
rounded calbes. After i was all done i checked to make everything was
in nice and good to go. I turned on my computer, everything started to
run like normal, fans began to run, then about 3 seconds l8r, it all
stopped and a siren 2-tone alarm goes on and stays on until i cut the
power. Also when it boots, there is no image on the screen , and also
when i was cleaning i did wipe off the thermal compound off because it
was really old but i don't think that would stop my computer. Finally
the night before i did overcloak my computer a bit but it was working
fine. I was just wondering if anyone knew wut was wrong?

On motherboards I've had the alarm was to indicate the CPU was overheated -
the threshold of this temp can usually be changed in the BIOS - but it seems
that your CPU did overheat. You mention you took off the thermal paste - did
you replace it? The paste is needed! Also make sure the CPU fan is connected
and working. Could be your CPU is fried, but after checking the CPU fan &
thermal paste try clearing the CMOS and try again.

What motherboard, CPU and video card do you have? It
sounds like something could be overheating. Thermal
compound is very important but just a thin layer is needed.

My CPU fan does go on when my comp turns on, but i didn't replace the
thermal compound, so i will do that as soon as possible. Hopefully my
cpu isn't fried., and I have a Biostart M7NCD motherboard with a AMD
2500XP Barton and a Gainward Geforce 5700Ultra Graphic Card.

Are you able to go into the BIOS setup as soon as you turn on
the system? If so, check the CPU temperature. It should stay less
than ~60C.

No, i am unable to get into the Bios, my computer only goes on for
about 1-6 seconds and no images come onto the screen. The night before
i upgraded my computer however (withit being OC'd) it had a temp around
38C.

Yes indeed you are a retard. Probalby fried the whole pc. Who said you
could do this to this poor helpless pc :(

first of all when doing MULTIPLE upgrades you should check each phase before
going to the next.

that being said, what brand of cables(round) are you using?

you took the thermal compound off? and what did you replace it with? guess:
you put the heat sink on backwards

remove the memory that you put in

I'm using round cables that i got from my bro, they are the stock
cables from a DFI Lanparty board. And again i didn't replace the
thermal compound, but am going out soon to get some. I will try putting
the heatsink on a different way, think i did put it on backwards to
because the wire was gettin in the way before. (Also i took all the new
parts out and checked if it would work, still didn't.) But i'm going to
go back and see if switching the heatsink around and takin the new ram
out will work.

Btw, thxs for all the helpful posts...except "MR Cole"...

OMG! I put the heatsink in the other way(the right way) and my comp
started up for about...10+ seconds and showed a booting screen tellin
me my graphic card then the alarm went off. So now i know it's
overheating and that thermal compound will prolly do the trick, thx all

arrrrggg quit booting it without the HS installed correctly and compound
applied. your going to run the risk of damaging the cpu.

The CPU will NOT receive adequate cooling without the thermal compound! You
have probably brilliantly fried your CPU...
