seen some games that do replay and save replay...but you have to deal
with proprietary compression sometimes.... camcorder pointed at the
screen...but then there is syncing cam to monitor..PITA

For some reason the OP hasn't appeared on my server, so I'm replying
here.

If you have an All-in-wonder then clone the screens and whatever appears
on your monitor should also be going out the composite and s-video
ports, where any VCR should be able to capture.

If you've tried that and it's not working what specifically is it doing?

Anyone know how or know a link which explains HOW to cap say a game
play from the computer to either DV (via FiWi or SVideo) or to VCR?

Cheers

hey (no problem on the highjack) I never thought of that.....you've accomplished this?...gonna try it later...if that's the case,
that opens way more other capabilities..

One of the things is that I have no idea HOW to make it show up on the
VCR or DV.. You mention cloning the screen? New one on me.

Here's what I am trying to do. I need to record what is happening on
my monitor onto DV either through FiWi or S-Video. I think S-Video is
my best option here.

I have the AIW9700Pro with purple dongle. I connect the S-Video cable
from the dongle to either my DV camera or to my VCR (in S-Video of
course) but no signal is being sent to be recorded.

In all my years with AIWs (radeon, 8500DV now 9700) I never had the
need to do this task but now I do and I'm befuddled.. I read the docs
and seems this is all I have to do is make the cable connections and
all should work. But it doesn't..

I'm obviously missing something.. can you assist?

Thanks in advance.

Setup should be identical to enabling TV-out, AFAIK. Display properties,
settings, advanced, displays. Clone the desktop to the TV. If the feed goes
through the VCR, you'll have to deal with Macrovision copy protection on
DVDs and some games.

For example, I wanted to be able to tape races in NASCAR 2003 to share with
friends. TV-out worked fine, but the tapes jumped and blinked until I put in
a $30 "Digital Video Stabilizer." That allowed me to tape games, lift clips
from movies, etc.

Understood but I'm trying to transfer what is showing on my desktop
onto DV or VCR, not a movie, tv show or video tape/DVD etc.

but 'cloning' the desktop will broadcast the desktop and whatever is running at the time. In other words if you wanted you could
record, lets say a portion of your self working within a piece of software click by click

That is precisely what I am trying to accomplish! Thanks, but how how?
You also make mention of 'cloning' but how is this accomplished? I
can't see where it's supposed to be done through the settings.

Thanks in advance.

in display properties -settings -advanced- monitors set the TV to clone with the control button underneath..

The PURPLE cable box is for VIDEO IN.... djeezzz ..... RTFM.

CONNECT THE RIGHT CABLES BEFORE PROCEDING!!!

Then it's just a matter of enabling TV-out [Display properties -->
Settings --> Advanced --> Display's* --> Click the blue tab on the TV-pannel
and press Apply] Windows will ask to confirm the choices, your screen will
flash briefly and TV will show a copy of your desktop.

Now you can go to the Overlay*-tab --> Press OK to confirm if the warning
screen appears --> Clone options --> Theater mode (This will automatically
play (most) movies full screen on the TV)

*: ATI Tabs (these show a red ati logo on them) they are part of ATI's
Control panel

This should get things working.

Thanks, I did rtfm btw, it wasn't clear enough as to what to do. I
hooked the svideo cable to the proper cable this time and got
somewhere but still not quite to where I need to go.. might be an
incompatibility problem with the DV camera itself. I'll give it a shot
next time with the VCR.

Thanks again
